Caring for Our Community
Every hour of every day, someone in our community needs help,...a friend, a neighbor, or someone down the street. The needs are very real. Senior citizens need transportation. Homebound residents need meals delivered. Domestic abuse victims need shelter and counseling. These needs are met through contributions to the Westfield United Fund.
We're Accountable
Raising money for the programs and services administered by our network of agencies may seem like the main task of the WUF, but the first priority is to guarantee to our donors that community services are of the highest quality. Fund Distribution volunteers ensure donations are targeted to have the greatest impact by closely monitoring community needs and services.
It is the Committees' job to assure donors that their money is allocated properly to meet both the continuing as well as the changing needs of our residents. The WUF is accountable in stewarding your contribution and showing you the results.

Success Stories
Examples of our local touch:
- The Westfield United Fund coordinated the multifaceted support for the families devastated by September 11th and continues to do so today.
- Developed the WORD (Westfield Organizations Resource Directory), available online and in print, supplying useful information regarding human care resources available to all Westfield residents.
- Utilizing the WUF senior-citizen survey that identified the needs of our elderly neighbors, resulted in the development of a senior transportation service and the handyman program, both facilitated by our member agency, American Red Cross of Westfield & Mountainside.
- Worked with the Westfield Caring Community Council to help settle Kosovo refugee families and will be doing the same for Katrina Gulf Coast families.
Some of the ways United Fund contributions helped last year:
- 380 Westfield senior citizens received a light breakfast and lunch daily at the Westfield Community Center.
- 2,345 teens participated in Westfield Y programs directed at combating obesity, improving self-esteem and positively channeling their energy.
- 483 Westfield first graders learned about substance abuse prevention through an interactive program from Prevention Links.
- 647 Westfielders of all ages received counseling to resolve addiction, depression, anxiety, and family issues through Youth and Family Counseling Services.
