Meet “Marilyn”
Client at Mobile Meals of Westfield

“I’d like to introduce you to Marilyn, a client of Mobile Meals since January 2020, when she came to us looking for help with meals. She was living alone. Her nieces helped when they could, but did not live nearby. Marilyn is 103 years old and receives meals Monday – Friday.

Covid shutdown began shortly after Marilyn joined Mobile Meals. She didn’t want to get meals from Meals on Wheels. During the two months we were closed, she had support from neighbors, her nieces when able, and our dedicated drivers. Our drivers would check in on her and sometimes would pick up food for her. To this day some of the drivers continue to pick up treats for her, like her favorite coffee ice cream. She even refers to one of the drivers as ‘her boyfriend.’

Recently Marilyn fell and was in the hospital and rehabilitation. Volunteers kept in touch with her during this time. On her first day back home, Marilyn wanted to know her meal from Mobile Meals would be there waiting for her. Marilyn’s story is the picture of our mission: To serve our neighbors in need by preparing and delivering nutritious meals and providing vital and caring contact. WUF funding makes it possible for us to do this in the communities we serve.”
