Volunteer Opportunities at CASA

Advocate for a Union County Foster Child - Community members are encouraged to consider becoming an advocate, as there are local foster youth still in need of a CASA volunteer - a caring, committed adult in their corner. The training to become a child advocate is approximately 30 hours and sessions are offered throughout the year at various times to accommodate daytime or evening availability. Currently, due to Covid-19, all trainings are conducted by Zoom. The curriculum, facilitated by CASA supervisors, includes such topics as the child welfare system and court process, educational and medical advocacy, cultural competence, domestic violence, poverty, substance use, trauma, using a strength-based lens, educational and medical needs, child development and court report writing. Train alongside others in your community, be sworn in by a family judge and then assigned to a youth or sibling set in need of a consistent adult presence and someone to protect their best interests in the courtroom, classroom and community.

Member of the Board of Trustees - Are you a Union County professional looking to make a difference and support the organization's mission to ensure every foster child that needs a CASA volunteer has one? Community members who can commit to growing awareness of the nonprofit, driving forward its mission and bringing in new faces, supporters and ideas are encouraged to apply for a trustee position with the organization.

Ad Hoc Event and Office Assistance - If it's not the right time for training as an advocate or serving as a trustee, your hands-on efforts can still make a tremendous difference in the ability of the organization, its staff and advocates to move the mission forward. From time to time, assistance is needed with such tasks as sorting school supplies, holiday gifts, setting up and breaking down for events, stuffing envelopes for mailers and more. This also can include serving as the link to retailers an restaurateurs you have relationships with to host charitable shopping or dining days, hosting your own fundraiser or gift drive as needed.
