YWCA UNION COUNTY
YWCA Union County’s mission is to empower survivors of domestic violence to become safe and free from abuse, and to promote social justice and eliminate violence against women and girls.
The Westfield United Fund funds the PALS Creative Art Therapy Program,
which provides specialized healing services to children ages 3-17 and their
non-offending parents affected by domestic violence in Union County.
Without support from the Westfield United Fund, teenagers (aged 13-17) would not have access to art therapy, an effective approach to healing and recovery.
”Our creative arts therapy approach has demonstrated superior effectiveness in treating childhood trauma compared to traditional verbal counseling alone.
Through carefully designed activities such as sand play, dance, music, drama, and art therapy, our skilled therapists help children process and express complex emotions…
Last year’s Westfield United Fund grant…enabled teen clients to focus on goals such as improving emotional well-being, increasing personal sense of safety, developing healthy relationships, learning ways to cope with change and transition, improve communication skills, and develop a positive sense of self.”
